Businesses must prepare for the NHS COVID-19 App

On Thursday, 24 September, the government will launch the NHS COVID-19 app, which will use QR codes to enable people to check-in with their phone on arrival, when visiting specific venues. The new NHS COVID-19 App will replace all alternative methods of track and trace, except in cases where the customer does not have a smartphone, their details will have to be collected by pen and paper and stored for 21 days. Every single person entering any the listed venues below will have to register their details via the new NHS QR code or pen and paper.

Watch the NHS QR code video for businesses here.

  • hospitality
  • leisure and tourism
  • close contact services
  • places of worship
  • local authority venues.

Every business will have a unique QR code, which will be sent by email through this link, once you have registered, you will receive a QR code by email from which you can print and display your specific QR code in your premises. If you have multiple outlets, you will need a separate code for each branch.

Please contact the BID office if you need help printing posters or applying for your QR code.

Businesses on the list are legally required to display NHS QR code posters by Thursday, 24 September on entry points to their establishments, as this will help The NHS track, trace and stop the spread of the infection

Local Authorities will have the power to enforce the new regulations and issue fines of up to £1,000 for venues that fail to comply. Fines will rise to up to £4,000 for repeat offenders.
