WLC – Women in construction

careers-v2

West London College creative media level 3 students have made an incisive and entertaining documentary/magazine style video programme on the skills crisis in the construction industry.

The 13-minute video came about when Ealing Council asked the College to create a short video aimed at children in Years 7-11, highlighting careers for women in construction.
Major construction companies such as Berkeley and Durkan took part, as well as careers advisers and women working in the construction industry. You’ll also see an interview with West London College’s Head of Construction and Motor Vehicle, Mandy Bahra.

Largely filmed in the College’s professional multi camera TV Studio, the campaigning organisation ‘Women Into Construction’ contributed on both sides of the camera by helping to make the ‘building site’ style set, as well as giving interviews.

Assistant Principal, Tracy Round-Turner, said: “West London College has a strong track record in construction and creative media and this project has been a delightful collaboration of the two.”

In February, West London College won Education and Training Provider of the Year  for our work on the West London Hub of the Mayor’s Construction Academy (MCA). In June, the College won a Women Into Construction ‘Partnership With Purpose’ Award in recognition of the work we do to combat the gender imbalance in the construction industry.

Earlier this year Ealing Green College formed a partnership with leading broadcast TV equipment hire company, VMI to strengthen the professional input into our creative media learners’ experience.
