 January Newsletter 2025

We have been looking back over 2024 to baseline our project deliverables. We will collect your feedback on the Make It Ealing projects in early February. In the meantime, in 2024, did you know.....

Make It Ealing subsidised 8450 recycling bags for over 134 businesses using curbside collection. Our collective buying enabled an average of 15% discount from First Mile and a 38% discount from Biffa on recycling bags. Don't worry if curbside collection is not your disposal method, as our contractors are offering a 'Make It Ealing' discount on all their waste services, which will be especially useful in April when the new waste legislation comes into force.

Shoplifting is the bane of retail, but we were ahead of the game. In 2024, our undercover security MLB-PCT dealt with 829 incidents, logged and named 631 offenders, filed 240 police reports with police attending on 52 occasions, and, with police and store approval, proceeded with over 30 private prosecutions of prolific offenders.

Make it Ealing provides essential staff training to keep your business compliant with legislation. Our training courses are free to BID levy payers. (Fire Marshal - Food Safety - Emergency First Aid at Work- ACT Training

Make It Ealing conducted 700 pest control visits to 70 independent businesses and general footfall areas where waste is stored. The project delivers massive cost savings for independent small businesses and a significant preventative measure for common areas with multiple users.

Rewarding staff and making them feel appreciated is essential for staff retention. Make it Ealing has set aside £2000 to reward your nominees from Hospitality, Leisure, Services, and Leisure Services, with winners and runners-up in each category receiving £300 and £200, respectively.

Your customers love a day out, and research is telling us consumers are looking for entertainment and experiences. Our events are free to attend, are family-friendly, and involve residents, schools, and community groups. In 2024 we hosted Dinosaur Day, Summer Courtyard Festival and Lights-on at Filmworks to showcase Ealing Broadway as a place to go with family for affordable shopping and fun.

Whether you love or hate social media, you can't ignore it. Over the last 90 days on Instagram alone, we had 119,433 views and reached over 14,800 accounts, with non-followers making up 27% of the views. People love a reel.

Getting to know your business neighbour has never been easier. Firstly, you know they have arrived if you read the digital newsletter, but our business socials allow you to catch up and share local knowledge over a glass of wine and a few nibbles.

Make It Ealing follows the seasons to enhance the attractiveness of the town centre. In winter, we focus on Christmas with the Christmas bear and balloon photo opportunities on The Green and a decorated Christmas tree cone on Oak Rd. Summer is extra special with our butterflies on lampposts and light-up butterflies in trees, which draw attention to the Make It Ealing glorious summer hanging baskets that last all summer.
Make It Ealing has also cheered up a dowdy window or two with colourful vinyls, directing people to explore the town more.

We are always looking at ways to ensure we are servicing business needs; with over 450 of you, it's not always straightforward, so we will knock on your door in early February to get your views on what you want to happen.
In January, we will welcome a new business support officer to the team, so don't hesitate to get in touch. We don't work from home; we are in the office daily, we are a hands-on team, your collective voice, representing your concerns, and ready for action in 2025.
