WELCOME NEW BUSINESS

It's great to see some new brands and independents opening or about to open their doors in Ealing. The much anticipated BoBo Social on Filmworks, offering good food and delicious cocktails, is now open every day from 9 am on weekdays and 9.30 am until late at weekends. Trailfinders for the perfect holiday is open on Dicken Yard. French Eye, men's wear fashion, and Fight for Sight charity shop, are about to open on New Broadway. Kimbo, a successful independent coffee importer, supplier and barista trainer, will open its first cafe on Oak Rd. WH Smith and Marks & Spencer have populated two new units outside Ealing Broadway station.

 
RE-USE & BORROW

Sustainability and how we can protect the planet are constant topics in the news. Check out the Library Of Things, housed in Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre, which offers a wide range of practical, user-friendly equipment to hire for job—or task-specific purposes at a reasonable sum. Also, the Preloved Uniform Shop and the Love Not Landfill Clothes Swap are back in August.

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

The closing date has been extended to Monday, July 15th. Not only are the prizes a great bonus, but they are also a fantastic opportunity to show your appreciation for your staff and colleagues. The competition is only open to BID levy-paying businesses under the Make It Ealing umbrella.

RECYCLING ALLOCATIONS

We have moved the free allocation of recycling bags over to First Mile. Hannah Goldsmith from First Mile will follow up on the contact details supplied by qualifying businesses who use kerbside waste bag collection to arrange the setting up of a portal, delivery of bags, and collection days. Biffa has also extended its discounted pricing schedule to BID levy-paying businesses. If you are still using Make It Ealing Biffa bags, can you contact Desh, the business support officer, so we can ensure continued collection?

BARCLAYS BANK LITTER PICK

The staff at the Ealing Broadway branch decided to pop out in between showers and do a litter sweep on the nearby streets. Equipped with bin bags, hi-viz jackets, and tools, they managed to fill several bags in just a few hours. The initiative was spearheaded by a staff member, supported by the local manager, and appreciated by the local community.

BRIGHT LIGHTS WORKSHOPS

Another great Bright Lights workshop funded by British Land focusses on 'Effective & Digital Communication' This course is on Thursday, June 20th, but they do different ones on different dates, so sign up for more details. Email the launch group here.

DATA AFTER DARK SURVEYS

University College London (UCL) and the Greater London Authority are undertaking a study to understand the lives and crucial needs of those who work after dark (6 pm-6 am) and the companies and organisations they work for. Ealing Council is also conducting a survey to understand the nighttime economy in Ealing.

PITZHANGER NEWS

The Pitzhanger Hub wins the 2024 RIBA London Award.

The Pitzhanger Hub, known as the Rachel Darroch Room, at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery has won the 2024 RIBA London Award. This prestigious accolade from the Royal Institute of British Architects highlights the architectural creativity of Jo Townshend Architects, inspired by Sir John Soane's timeless designs.

Pitzhanger is also excited to announce the upcoming exhibition, Grayson Perry: The Vanity of Small Differences, which will be open from July 10th to December 8th, 2024. For the first time, the Turner-Prize-winning artist's six large-scale tapestries will be displayed in the home where William Hogarth's A Rake's Progress, the inspiration behind Perry's tapestries, was purchased and displayed.

 

We have vacancies for directors on the Board of Make It Ealing

The board of Make It Ealing comprises of business owners, managers or representatives to ensure the focus and aims of the voted business plan stay on track and are delivered effectively and within budget.

The role is voluntary, but the time commitment is structured as six meetings per year and one AGM. As a director, you will be supported by a dedicated team of paid staff who will manage the expected deliverables within the planned budget and schedule. This support ensures that you can focus on strategic contributions that will help shape Make It Ealing's offer and maintain a thriving town centre. 

As our current chair prepares to stand down, the directors will elect a new chair, taking on additional bi-monthly meetings with the CEO. We are particularly eager to engage with individuals from the services, entertainment, office, and retail sectors. We recognise each sector's unique value to our organisation and look forward to welcoming your contributions.

PART TIME OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR REQUIRED
